Earlier today, Anthony Breznican of Vanity Fair, released a new article covering new details, secrets and behind the scenes photos (by Annie Leibovitz) of multiple upcoming Star Wars live-action series and featured films.

With the Obi-Wan Kenobi series premiering next week (May 27th) on Disney +, Star wars fans are already eager to learn what comes next and we learned that what comes next is the beginning of a revolution. It was revealed that the Andor series will premiere late this summer with the third season of The Mandalorian slated for late 2022 or early 2023 and Ahsoka later in 2023.

The more we learn about the Andor series, the more excited I get about it as it looks like we are following Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna) as he transforms from a cynical, anti-revolutionist who lost his home planet to the Empire to the Rebel hero we meet in Rogue One.

Diego Luna describes Andor as a refugee story with desperate people fleeing the Empire. “It’s the journey of a migrant.”

“Then we see another planet that’s completely taken apart in a colonial kind of way. The Empire is expanding rapidly. They’re wiping out anybody who’s in their way.”

For the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, we learn that for director and show-runner Deborah Chow, the story had to center around Kenobi’s love for Anakin Skywalker and the loss he felt after losing his former Padawan to the dark side.

“I don’t think he ever will not care about him. What’s special about that relationship is that they loved each other.”

The article covers how Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Hayden Christensen were brought onboard to reprise their roles and how they have been molded by those characters they played over two decades ago.

We also got bits of information regarding Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka TV series slated for a 2023 release. Mostly how she would contact her nephew via video chat in full Ahsoka make-up. There is a lot of information regarding how The Mandalorian came to life with Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy initial meeting with Jon Favreau and setting him on a “play-date” with Star Wars veteran, Dave Filoni, to iron out how to make the first ever Star Wars live-action series.

We finally got some minor news about the Leslye Hedland-led series, The Acolyte. Set roughly 100 years before The Phantom Menace, it is a mystery thriller that will explore how the mighty Jedi (in all their glorious High Republic white and gold robes) fall prey to the looming shadow of the dark side.

“We’re taking a look at the political and personal and spiritual things that came up in a time period that we don’t know much about.”

Most surprisingly was the official announcement of a new series led by former Fantastic Four director, Jon Watts (director of the three MCU Spider-Man movies). Currently under the working title, Grammar Rodeo, this new series takes place after the events of Return of the Jedi and will supposedly focus on four 11 to 12 year old’s as the galaxy starts to rebuild from the fall of the Empire. Although the story is being kept under wraps, it is said that it will feel like those 80’s coming-of-age adventure films.

On the feature films front, the news are not as engrossing or promising. It is believed that the next film to go into production will be the confirmed Taika Waititi film, followed by Patty Jenkin’s Rogue Squadron. After that, things get muddy. No official confirmation that Marvel Studios President Keving Feige is working on a movie (although MCU writer Michael Waldron recently said he has started writing his Star Wars movie) and the highly talked about Rian Johnson trilogy seems to be pushed further back as, Kennedy says he is busy with the Knives Out movies and a multi-film deal with Netflix. Will we ever get these movies?

The worst news for fans of Solo: A Star wars Story like myself at least, that were holding out hope for a Solo 2 announcement at Star Wars Celebration, was the take that the Han Solo stand-alone movie was a misstep because they recast the famous character.

“Now it does seem so abundantly clear that we can’t do that.”

Kathleen Kennedy on recasting popular roles.

I love Solo and really hope Lucasfilm revisits those comments and see the growing love for that movie but more importantly for Alden Ehrenreich.
